UVIGLIE CASTLE
The Castello di Uviglie winery, in Rosignano Monferrato (AL) , is one of the oldest wineries in Piedmont. Since 1322 , the year in which the castle was built, it has changed hands between noble families, from the Gonzaga to the Bricherasio.
The first documented production dates back to 1491, and in 2021 the Bonzano family, with the advice of the oenologist Donato Lanati, acquired it to continue the extraordinary work of the previous properties, producing wines that capture the essence of Monferrato.
From the management of the vineyard to the tastings, the company is entirely family-run and uses only its own grapes, grown with the double SQNPI and Equalitas sustainability certification to demonstrate its commitment to sustainable agriculture and responsible practices on all 45 hectares of vineyards. , using the native Barbera, Grignolino and Albarossa together with international inspirations given by Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.
Today the most famous bottle is " Hosteria ", an unusual and captivating blend of Pinot Noir and Barbera with great appeal.
Another wealth of Castello di Uviglie is the forty-year tradition in the Classic Method. The " Le Cave " line is made up of sparkling wines refined in private underground quarries which extend over an area of over 10,000m2. These stone quarries from Cantoni have been dug by man since 800 AD in the ancient seabed present in Monferrato over 22 million years ago .
The limestone-sandy white marl stone not only accommodates the roots of our vineyards, but has also played a fundamental role in the configuration of the urban landscape of the UNESCO Monferrato area.
The cellar is open for visits and tastings all year round.
