The word vermouth comes from the German Wermut with a French naturalization of the term used to indicate precisely a medicinal drink that was then transformed into an aperitif (adding an alcohol to the wine flavored with herbs). Vermouth: a name, a story for a wine flavored invention of Piedmont that is still the main character of the world mixology and beverage, from the most traditional drink lists to its new bold interpretations but of very high quality, that make it versatile to the glass both in purity and as a main ingredient for iconic cocktails.
And about audacity and new interpretations, here is the brand new vermouth Somaro, created by Matteo Soragna and Martina Rosato (from whose initials comes the name, nice and unmistakable) owners of the bar Civico 3 in Casale Monferrato: the production is totally artisanal and bears the signature of the historic Magnoberta distillery. The taste is uncompromising, strong, spicy and with an unmistakable and persistent note of cinnamon from the first sip.
There is no middle ground: either you love it or you hate it. We, as lovers of Somaro, have tasted it in purity and tried it together with the tonic, a timeless combination with structure and ignorant character: the Somaro Tonic.
